What We Do

Unisa Robotics in Education (76820)
Hands-on Technology Training Qualifications

Qualifying students (educators and community leaders) will be equipped to coach learners in robotics. Students are equipped to teach the basics of robotics in education (programming, technology and pedagogy) in terms of knowledge, skills and values, as part of the course Robotics in Education, these competencies contribute to the development of science, engineering and technology in communities in Southern Africa, Africa and globally.

The module is interactive, online and practical. The student must participate in online discussions, connect to the Internet weekly, submit learning-unit tasks, and submit a portfolio as evidence of learning for a venue based examination. The student is required to have access to robotic equipment (Mindstorms EV3), a computer and EV3 software.

INFORMATION
  1. Currently have 11 kits, including facilitator’s
  2. Robotics students need to be in Grades 7 to 10
  3. Students will be issued a Student Card and Student Number according to the kit they will be using during the program
  4. Students will be working in groups of two
  5. Currently at 8 Students Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
GOALS
  1. Number of students per class: 20
  2. Increase number of kits
  3. Full week of classes
  4. Joint venture with German School & surrounding schools
  5. Create student exam at the end of the 15 weeks
  6. Students to receive certifications on completion of robotics course
  7. School visits: 5 more schools
  8. Students to compete with schools who run a Robotics Program
  9. Program Manager to complete “Robotics in Education – Advanced (CSR0B2E)” TBD
